The less said about Bess's the better

Hall Lane  - Bess's
July 18th 2020

Well this was one to forget. Bess's is a 75 peg lake and had been sold out to multiple clubs. There were about 5 free pegs on the whole lake with 19 of us 'spread' over 20 pegs. It was always going to be too tight and the fishing took the knock but, to a greater extent than anyone predicted.

To cut a shit story short, very little was caught. On peg 32 Tony Wilson was the runaway winner with 81-10. Most of these were caught at the far bank, on maggot over groundbait, in the first 90 mins before the peg shut down completely.

In second place was Dave Edwards from his usual end peg, 27. With a 30m edge compared to everyone else's 30cm. He caught the square root of fuck all for 4 hours before a few rocked up down his edge and he's made the most of it to weigh 46-14 of mainly carp caught on maggot over groundbait. Ramblers on top of Parbold Hill could hear him shouting "Eight pounders, one a bung" while he played with his scrotum.

In 3rd place was Rob Jones with 31lb from peg 40. Rob has caught at the far bank on maggot and put together a net of skimmers, ide and roach in an area which seemed to hold very few carp.

The top 3 all won their sections and there were other section wins for Jack Edwards in the section of doom with 4-04. Better than his dad now Jack. Also for Carl Harrison with 20-04.

Those weights don't tell the full story though and over half the field failed to register 10lb.
This won't be a lake we'll be returning to fish. We will still visit the venue to fish Gwen's but not Bess's.

The golden peg wasn't won by Bill Oddie on peg 29 and will therefore roll over again.

There were wins in the Summer knockout cup for Jack, Lez S, Carl, Paul Mc, Offy, Rob J, Les C and Paul E.
