Weston Pools- Clay Pit
4th July 2020
Back to Weston Pools on the lovely Clay Pit with 17 members fishing. The Golden peg, which had rolled over twice, was now up to £52 and Paul Mc drew it on peg 22. He was in a section of four with Bob, Rob Jones and Richie. After a barren two hours on that bank, struggling to present in the wind, everyone started catching a few and in the end it was close with Bob and Paul claiming similar weights. Paul went first and weighed 58-10 followed by Bob with a level 59lb to deny him. The Golden peg rolls over again and will be £70+ on the next match. Unlucky big fella.
The match was taken apart by Dave Edwards on the boards, peg 1. After some decent weights off it recently he was always going to be hard to beat. Dave has fished groundbait and corn in 3ft to put a net of big carp together weighing 142-14 and set a new target for the biggest weight of the year. That's gonna take some beating!
In second place on the day, and employing an underused tactic of getting shitfaced for 5 hours, was Neal Howard on peg 14. His 109lb was caught by fishing mashotts shallow at 8 mefers hic! between thwee and elegern hic! inches deep. Or something like that he said.
There were also section wins for Dennis Clayton, who takes a 3 point lead in the Den v Keith challenge, with 70lb from peg 9 and for Tony Wilson with 85-04 from peg 34. Keith did however draw level in the carbon smashing challenge.
In the semi final of the veterans knockout cup there were wins for Rob Jones and Den Clayton who will fight out the final in October.
The next match will see the start of the summer knockout cup.
