Weston Pools - Canal
5th October 2019
A cracking turnout again at Weston with 19 fishing on the Canal.
With the temperatures dropping in the week leading up to this nobody was sure how it would fish.
Tony Wilson drew peg 19 and with a spare peg either side, made the most of it with a net of mainly carp caught on 6mm pellet on a top kit and in the edge to take the match win.
In second place with 61-04 was Bob O'Neill from unfancied peg 4. He caught using groundbait and maggot short for a mixed bag with plenty of F1's to win his section.
Third place went to Dave Edwards with 49lb. After struggling most of the day he had an arrival of carp down the edge and the last hour which saw him catch enough to take the section.
Fourth place and another section win went to Neal Howard with 46-08.
Den Clayton 33lb and Keith Howard 24-00 also won their sections and Dennis took a 6-4 lead in the Keith v Den challenge with just two matches to go.
Col Roe's 28lb wasn't enough to win the Golden peg which rolls over to the next match but it was enough to beat Robbie Jones in the Veterans Cup Final.
However, all the action was saved for after the match when Paul Mc decided to take a dip in peg 6. Having not had a bite in the last hour, he decided to jump in and see where the fish were hiding. The edges are quite deep on Weston but, with his 8ft 3in frame, it barely came past his waist.
Into the drink went his phone, bank cards, cash and Goodison season ticket. The fish promptly threw the season ticket back but it was more difficult to retrive the rest.
About an hour later it was all safely back with its owner thanks to Jason Andrews getting in.
He's been approached by Tom Daley to appear in a new season of Splash! They may have to change the name of the show to Baddooouuushhhh!
He claimed the wallet contained 80 pound but when it was retrieved it contained 60 pound. A bit like Dave and his keepnets.
