Colin dobs his way to victory

Hall Lane - Gwen's
3rd February 2018

This month saw the club return to Hall  Lane in Parbold to fish our first winter match there. We had booked Gwen's pool, a 28 peg straight canal. With 15 members fishing there would be 5 sections of three with a bit of room between anglers.

This months match was the 2017/18 Winter knockout cup final with Tony Wilson trying to defend his title against Dave Edwards.
The draw was done over breakfast at the Toby carvery and nobody really knew where you needed to draw.

As the match was about to start Tony Wilson shipped out to check the depth on his 14.5m line but forgot that his 16m section was still attached and shipped straight into the brambles at the island. With his elastic snagged he had to call the 'all in' and go for a walk to untangle it. Ten minutes later, covered in thorns and slightly red faced he came back to find that a few people had started catching from the word go.
Unfortunately, this was a false dawn and most people struggled to low weights.

In the first section Dave Edwards managed to snare his usual lump on his first drop by dobbing bread to the far bank reeds. It somehow managed to free itself at the net this time though and a few more lost carp were to follow. Maybe his luck was running out....no chance. After only catching three small carp he decided he'd had enough and chucked a bomb rod out while he started to pack his pole away. Five minutes later and just before the all out, he caught his customary, foul hooked, 5lb carp. This doubled his weight to 10lb 9oz and won him both the section and the Winter knockout cup. Stuffy cunt.

The second section was just as tough with Paul Mc's 4-08 enough to take the money as the only one in the section to weigh in.
The curse of the new pole struck again as Dennis slipped to 2-0 down in his annual battle against Keith. He was then awarded the new 'You're shit!' medal for two DNW's in a row.

The third section saw Colin Roe take both section and match with 22-08 of mainly carp dobbing bread in a deep hole at the far bank. This was Colin's first match win, so a huge well done to him.
Where's the top of his head gone?

The next section saw Churchy take the honours with 15-08 of carp caught on a method feeder and corn, also enough for 2nd place in the match. The biggest surprise was that he was there in the first place after being out on the ale and getting his nuts the night before. A fact that he reminded me of at least 6 times during the match.
The final section saw Robbie Jones take the money and 3rd overall with 11-00 of carp on the rod.
Nice to see some different lads taking the top spots and picking up some money (and Bucko doing shit).

Also spotted on saturday morning was the Homomobile in the Vic's car park. Bob unable to fish due to going to work or being too cold or whatever...
