Dave draws another flier.....yawn

January 6th 2018
Hampton Springs - Willow

The first match of 2018 saw the club welcome three new members to the fold, John Rogers, Paul McColgan and Chris Williams the second (A.K.A. Bill Oddie, Wreck-it-Ralph etc).
Welcome boys, good to have you on board.

This year the club have decided to split the league into two divisions. This would be the first match to see how it works.
It was also the semi final of the 2017/18 winter knockout cup with Dennis, Tony, Dave and Richie left in the draw.
The draw was Tony v Richie and Dave v Dennis.

A very cold January morning meant a few members fannied out and used one of their two missed matches for the year already. This left 14 fishing, spread over 4 sections so everyone had a bit of room.
Usually with winter matches on carp lakes the fish will be balled up in a certain area of the lake but you can never usually tell where that will be until you start fishing. However, with not one but two Edwards and a Rogers drawing in the same section, the betting was suspended on where the fish where hiding.

In the first section Tony and Richie would battle out the semi final off the next peg. With an hour to go it was tense with both having caught 2 carp each before Tony found a few F1's dobbing under a bush in the edge and ended with 14-02 to take the section and a place in the final.

In the second section Keith weighed 28lb to take the section and 4th place overall. He also set the benchmark for the biggest fish of the year with a carp of 8lb 8oz. It was enough to hold off Bill Oddie who must have been too busy wtching the Buzzards overhead. Still, another species ticked off and 5th overall not to be sniffed at.

The next section was the best by far with the three anglers making up the top three overall. With both Bucko and Dave claiming in the region of 35-40lb it was time to find out who is the most honest least full of shit.
Bucko went first and put 72lb on the scales, good bullshitting by most peoples standards.

Not to be outbullshitted Dave then weighed 72lb 12oz to show Bucko who is king.
(I forgot to take a photo so I made this one, not that you can tell)

The section was completed by Paul Edwards who weighed 53lb.
Cracking weights for January, well done lads.
The final section saw Dennis christen his new pole with a blank, much to the amusement of Keith opposite. Paul Mc took the honours with 13-02.
Good performances from all the new members. Looks like they're going to keep us on our toes.
Into the Winter knockout cup final are Tony and Dave.
