Weston Pools
Wier and Belvedere
17th October 2020
This outing took us to Weston Pools in Oswestry. The fishery had double booked our match, which should have been on Stretton, and instead we were on Belvedere and Weir. With autumn in full force most people decided a maggot approach would work best to catch whatever came along.
The first section on Weir was taken by Mike Cox. He's caught f1's and Ide on the long pole and weighed 34-10 from peg 6.
The next section was a close one but, it was won by Grahame Offlands with 47-00. Sat on his second home, peg 10, he caught mainly carp on the deck at 8m with maggots. This was enough for second on the lake and third in the match overall.
Tony Wilson on peg 15 won the match and with it the league. He's fished a simple match with maggot at 10m all day. Switching between deck and shallow kept a steady run of Ide and F1's coming. 75-12 was the winning weight.
Over on Belvedere things were a bit tougher. Colin Roe won the first section with 13lb. I don't know how he caught because he usually takes about a season to reply to a message.
The second section was taken by Les Thompson on peg 20. He's fished maggots short for 35-06.
Winning Belvedere and taking second place in the match was Bob O'Neill on the mother of all flyers, peg 25. After catching a few fish at the pads he's dropped on a short maggot line and had a nice arm aching run of Barbel.
Progressing in the Winter knockout cup are Grahame Offlands, Tony Wilson, Col Roe and Rob Jones.
Unfortunately it looks like it could be the last match for a while with the country going back into lockdown.
Hopefully we will get to finish the league and the Winter cup at some point in the not too distant future.
