Weekend Away 2019
Weekend Away 2019
The 2019 annual weekend away saw the club visiting Weston Pools for the 3 days. It was decided to book here as there is no driving involved for the 20 functioning alcoholics that would be taking part.
The venue was experiencing a bit of a dip in form and the usual massive weights didn't happen but we still had some good sport and think the 'Ryder cup style' format is proving to be a hit.
The 20 anglers were split into two teams of 10, red and blue, and on the first day they split into two sub teams of five. Red A v Blue A on Canal pool and Red B v Blue B on Weir.
On Canal Tony Wilson led the way with a net of 76-04 of F1's and carp caught on pellet at 13m and in the edge on peg 20. In a team with Lez S, Bucko, Bob and Dennis C they managed a total of 182-02.
Leading the way for the red team was Bill Oddie with a weight of 55-08. More 50lb+ weights from Dave and Norman meant their team which also included Keith and Frank took the victory with 198-10.
On Weir pool Chris Roe did just enough to win with 41-14. Backed up by his team of Phil, Paul Mc, Rich and Carl their total of 157-00 was enough to take the Victory.
The red team made up of Dennis Jones, Neal, Offy, Col Roe and Paul Edwards put 137-02 on the scales.
That meant one team victory each and the points were shared on day one.
Following the fishing we had a quick shower and change and headed over to the brewery where we had a few in the orchard. Some of the lads were introduced to Sweeney mountain cider and coffee and vanilla stout. The ideal way to start building a hangover.
The fishery had put on a BBQ for us later in the evening and we had a huge game of killer pool in the clubhouse won by Bill Oddie.
After that things get a bit fuzzy and there were some sore heads in the morning.
The second day was a pairs competition with 5 pairs from the red team facing 5 pairs from the blue team with one on Belvidere and one on Stretton.
Dave 'drawbag' Edwards landed himself on peg 25 Belvidere. The best peg in our solar system. A weight of 62-12 was enough for him to win the lake. Bucko 48-04, Chris Roe 47-08 and Norman 47-00 had a great battle.
On Stretton it was Neal Howard who had the best weight with 68-02 from peg 17. He just pipped Phil on peg 4 with 65-04.
There were pairs wins for Neal & Dave, Norm & Paul E and Bill Oddie & Col Roe for the red team. The blue team had two winning pairs in Chris R & Lez S and Dennis C & Bob.
That meant the red team would take a two point lead into the third and final day.
Saturday night we had a few pints in the clubhouse watching the FA cup final before geitting taxi's into town for the second half and then into the Chinese next door. Some casual racism from Norm almost had us kicked out before we'd seen a spring roll.
Cheryl Baker and Chris Akabusi were on hand to witness Dave Edwards world record attemp at eating 8732 prawn crackers in 13 minutes. The fat cunt smashed it out of sight in 8 minutes and 26 seconds.
A much earlier night was had due to all the old farts being too tired to do two nights in a row.
The final day we were all on Belvidere. A bit of a squeeze due to the fishery double booking the Clay Pit.
It was singles day and pairs of pegs were drawn. This ensures you are fishing against someone in the same area of the lake.
With the blue team 2 points behind they needed to win 6 out of the 10 matches.
Some very close match ups meant a lot of matches were decided by just a couple of pounds but the blue team managed the 6 wins required to take the victory by 27 points to 23.
Although the fishing wasnt as good as it can be, the venue as a whole was excellent. The accomodation, food and organisation from Daz and Rachael were second to none. Everything ran as smoothly as possible and the weekend was a sucess.
The lads have voted to return again next year. How many sleeps Keith?
