Hall Lane -Bess's
Our second visit of the year to Hall Lane saw us on Bess's pool for the first time. A 75 peg canal style lake of which we had pegs 1-26 with other clubs on the rest of the lake.
19 members made the trip for this one and it was decided to have an early start to be home in time for the Champions league final.
Those plans were scuppered when Dave's ignored his alarm and made everyone late again. He refused to admit he'd slept in and his excuse this time was that the coffee machine in the garage was really slow.
The first section was won by the man in form John 'Bucko' Rodgers who gets really wound up when you put a 'd' in his surname. He caught carp at the far bank for 45-00.
Section 2 was taken by Paul Edwards, the more reliable of the brothers, with 29-04. Paul has caught mainly carp fishing pellet across and in the margins.
The third section was won by Bob O'Neill with a great weight of 74-08. He made good use of his 'gap in the island' flier to take the section at a canter. That was enough for second place overall but earned him one point as the winner isn't in the league.
That winner was Col Cook. Another masterclass from Col saw him bag 108-00 fishing maggot at the far bank. However a net violation meant he was knocked back to 98-00 after putting 60lb in his last hour net. He'd caught well early and late with a quiet middle of the match.
The final section saw Lez Smith on the golden peg no.26 but he was beaten by Norman Smith with 17-08 meaning the money will roll over to the next match.
In the semi finals of the veterans cup, Col Roe beat Lez Smith and Robbie Jones beat Dennis Clayton. A bad day for Dennis, he got knocked out of the cup, dropped his phone in the lake and had to suffer Liverpool becoming European champions. He did beat Keith though so all was not lost.
The Vets cup goes on hold now until October as the Summer knockout cup starts next month.
1st Col Cook 98-00
2nd Bob O'Neill 74-08
3rd Bucko 45-00
