Belvedere Barbel Bagging

6th April 2019
Belvidere & Jack's

The second match of the year saw the club return to Weston Pools on Belvidere and Jack's pools. Another good turnout of 19 anglers meant a split of eleven on Belvidere and eight on Jack's.

The first section proved to be tough with John Rogers catching 36-06 to take the section from Peg 1 on Belvidere.

Section 2 was taken by Chris Roe on Peg 6. After a decent start short on pellets he was able to keep ticking over through the match with odd fish. A run of big barbel down the edge saw him race into the lead. He added a few F1's towards the end to fall agonisingly short of his first ton of the year with 97-00.
That proved to be enough to win the section and the match overall.
On peg 3 Paul McColgan caught 43-04 to take third place overall.
Also in his section munter hunter Richie Williams set the benchmark for the seasons biggest fish with a carp of 9lb 1oz.

The third and last section on Belvidere was taken by Tony Wilson on peg 18. After a poor start he caught 25lb of Ide on maggot shallow before a late run of carp in the edge bumped his weight up to 68-12.
That meant Dennis Clayton on peg 11 failed to win the Golden Peg which will rollover to next month.

Over on Jack's pool Offy took the first section from unfancied peg 7 with 28-14, beating Col Roe on peg 3 by just 2 ounces! He's caught on maggot shallow at 6m and down the edge.

A bit of controversy took the shine off a very close final section. Cheaty McCheaterson won, beating Dave and Robbie by just a couple of pound. He was later disqualified for breaking fishery rules.
That meant Dave Edwards took the section from peg 16 with 43-00 beating Robbie by 6 ounces.
Robbie's 42-10 of mainly barbel on the feeder was a new PB.

Hopefully the lesson has been learnt here. The club doesn't set a load of unnecessary rules, we just ask anglers to stick to the rules set out by each fishery we visit. These rules have to be adhered to for the sake of the clubs future.

1st Chris Roe 97-00
2nd Tony Wilson 68-12
3rd Paul McColgan 43-04
