Victory for Dave wraps up the league

1st December 2018
Holmston Hall - Carp Lake

The final league match of the year saw the club head to Holmston Hall in Tarporley. Fishing on the largest of the three lakes, known as the carp lake but with a large head of silvers to go at too.

Another great turn out meant we were tightly pegged, the lake has 24 pegs and we had 19 anglers fishing. Most pegs are well spaced though and there was still some colour in the water so we were hoping for a decent day.

In terms of league standings, promotion and relegation had already been decided with Paul Edwards wrapping up top spot and Carl Harrison securing second. They will be making their way into division one next year.
Being relegated from division one are John Rogers and Chris Roe. This is due to them missing more than the maximum four matches over the year.

Division one and the main overall league were both still to be decided with Tony 'ever the bridesmaid, never the bride' Wilson going into the match with a 2 point lead over Dave Edwards.

Onto the fishing, and it's been ok with quite a few carp caught around the lake and some good bags of silvers.

The first section was taken by Bill Oddie, using his new pole he fished banded 8mm pellet and caught carp to 8lb to win the section with 28-00 and take 2nd place overall.

Section 2 was won by Bob O'Neill. He's caught a mixed bag fishing pellet on the deck and maggot shallow in between sneaking off to the caravan for an odd Jager bomb.

The third section was taken by John Rogers. He fished corn on a waggler all day and had a nice net of silvers and a solitary carp for 24-04. Nice day doing something a bit different.

The fourth section was taken by Colin Cook with a 24-12 mixed bag on the pole. On the next peg Tony Wilson tipped back around 5lb to kiss goodbye to any chances of winning the league.

In the final section Dave Edwards fished paste all over his peg and caught carp sporadically through the day. His 35-04 was enough to take the match win and clinch the league for a third time.

So that's it, another year gone by in a flash.

Dave Edwards won the Winter Cup beating Tony Wilson in the final.

Paul Edwards won the Summer Cup beating Tony Wilson in the final.

Dave Edwards won the league beating Tony Wilson in the final match.

Keith Howard won the Veterans Cup which Tony Wilson isn't old enough to get beat in the final of yet.

Robbie Jones caught the biggest fish, a carp of 12-08 from  Stretton at Weston Pools.

Tony Wilson had the best weight of the year with 164-08 from Gwen's at Hall Lane.

Paul Edwards and Carl Harrison gained promotion into Division one.
