Tony goes top on Long Island

6th October 2018
Hampton Springs - Long Island

15 members attended this one and it proved to be a good match with lots of different species caught. Bites were available most of the day on either pellet or maggot from smaller fish before the carp moved down the edges towards the end.

For most people the carp proved frustrating as you could see them coming into inches of water but getting them on the hook was another matter.

The first section saw Bill Oddie catch 29-02 for the win. Catching on the feeder mainly to the far bank saw him amass enough to beat Paul Edwards by just a couple of pounds.

In the next section, again mainly on the feeder, was Graham Offlands. He caught a nice mixture of carp and F1's to put 37-10 on the scales and take the section and 4th place overall.

The third section saw Tony Wilson win the match overall with 52lb. He started short on soft pellet for a mix of f1's and skimmers before moving to 11m on maggot for Ide. A couple of late lumps down the edge was enough to pull away from the feild and move him into the lead in the league in the absence of Dave Edwards.

The 4th section was tight with Carl Harrison and Paul Mcsomething fighting it out. Carl held the lead for most of the match by catching on maggot on the pole but a late run down the edge for Paul made it close. At the scales Carl had hung on and won with a weight of 37-06 to Paul's 36-02.
Second place overall for Carl with a new PB carp of 10lb, great result.

In the last section Keith Howard needed eyes in the back of his head. He was hoping to beat Dennis to cement the win in the annual Keith v Dennis challenge, he was also in the final of the Veteran's knockout cup against Lez Smith and had Bob O'Neill and Col Roe to beat for the section.
Another close section where Keith had the lead until a late surge of carp for Bob levelled things out.
Keith weighed in 30-12, enough to beat Lez and take the Veteran's cup, also enough to take an unasailable 7-3 lead against Dennis. With just Bob to beat for the full house it ended up a draw with Bob also weighing 30-12. Unbelievable Jeff.
Two and a half out of three ain't bad though.

A little mention must go to Neal Howard who while playing a carp on the pole had his brolley dismantled by the wind. An almighty hissy fit followed where he lost the brolley.....and the fish......and his dummy. Those Batman gadgets aren't what they used to be. No doubt he'll get Alfred to repair it.

A few notable absences mean it's really close now to see who gets demoted from Division 1 and Carl has moved himself onto the brink of promotion from Division 2 with just two matches remaining this year.

1st. Tony Wilson 52-00
2nd Carl Harrison - 37-06
3rd - Paul Mc - 36-02

Weston Pools next for the November match on Canal and the start of the 2018/19 Winter knockout cup.
