Simmo smashes Stretton

25th August 2018
Weston Pools
Stretton & Jack's

This match was a rearranged fixture after a match in March was cancelled due to the lake being frozen.
It also served as the semi-final of the Summer knockout cup. The cup draw was

Paul E v Colin R
 Tony v Les C

19 anglers turned out for this one, 18 members and Ian Simpson joined us as a guest. We were spread across two pools, Stretton and Jack's meaning there was plenty of room.

Recently at Weston there seems to have been a shift away from catching large weights of F1's shallow and most winning bags seem to be mainly Carp caught on the deck. This proved to be the case again and there were some very big fish caught. The previous biggest fish of the year, a ten pounder caught by Norman on Hampton Rock, was beaten no less than four times. The lead is now held by Robbie Jones with a 12-06 specimen.

Winning the match was Ian Simpson with 115-10 of mainly carp caught from peg 19 on Stretton. After a slow start he's changed his approach and caught well on corn in the margins. Two guest appearances and two wins, he won't be welcome if he carries on like that.

In second place with 114-04 was Tony Wilson on end peg number 4 on Stretton. After a terrible first half of the match some F1's turned up on a caster shallow line to boost his weight before he had a late run of big carp down the edge.

Third place was taken by Dave Edwards who despite sleeping in, turning up late and doing none of his vice-captain duties, has caught big F1's and Carp on the deck in spells to weigh 107-08 from peg 26 on Stretton.

Winning Jack's pool and taking 4th overall was John Rogers with 107-04. Beaten by 4oz by Dave for the second consecutive week. Surely some payback is due soon. He's caught on pellet on a top kit steadily all day.

There were section wins for Neal Howard with 46-04 despite losing lots of big fish and Paul Edwards with 57-02 with over half of his weight being made up of Barbel.

Special mentions to Bob O'Neill with 88lb and to Dennis Clayton who kept his hopes of catching Keith alive with a fantastic 86lb despite throwing his pole in the lake again. I think he just likes seeing me dripping wet.

There was also a new PB for Carl Harrison with 61-04 caught mainly on a Jigga.

Through to the Summer knockout cup final are Tony Wilson and Paul Edwards.
