Chris Conquers Canal.

Weston Pools - Weir and Canal
5th May 2018

Back to Weston Pools and finally some decent weather. The turnouts this year have been great and we had 18 members and 4 guests for this one and it was decided to fish Canal and Weir to give us plenty of space and hopefully a better match.

This months match would also be the semi finals of the Veterans knockout cup with Norm, Lez Smith, Robbie and Catfish battling it out for a place in the final.

A few of the lads had been up the week before for a sneaky practice with varying degrees of success. The venue is definitely switching on but still not quite in full summer mode.

With the hot sunny weather there were a lot of fish just sitting under the surface but most people found them unwilling to feed.

The first section was taken by Bob with 43-08 from peg 6 on Weir just pipping Frank's 41-00. Bob has caught using maggot both shallow and down the edge.

The second section was taken by Dave 'drawbag' Edwards from the best peg on the complex (as per effing usual), 10 on Weir, with 73-04 caught mainly mugging the cruising fish. Enough to win the lake and take 3rd spot overall.

The last section on Wier was convincingly won by Bucko with 67-08 from peg 18. He's caught using caster on the deck at 6 meters.

Over on Canal and Lez Smith eventually got to his peg, despite getting lost 3 times trying to find it. I think the club should buy him a sat nav to go on his new trolley.
He managed 45-00 of mainly Carp caught short on peg 12 which was enough for a brown envelope.

The next section saw Chris Roe have a late run of carp down the edge on corn and amass 84-00. Enough to win the section, the match overall and set a new benchmark for the biggest weight of the year.

The next section was won by Tony Wilson. Fishing caster on a jigga in the margins saw him put 73-00 on the scales for 4th overall.

The final section was taken by Offy. Sat in the corner, like a naughty boy, on peg 2, he's caught down his right margin and weighed 75-00 for second place and a new PB match weight.

In the veterans cup Lez beat Frank and Norm beat Keith setting up a Lez v Norman final to see who is king of the old farts.

A really good close match with some good weights all round.
Well done to all framers and section winners.

1st - Chris Roe 84-00
2nd - Offy 75-00
3rd - Dave 73-04

Now we can start prepping for the weekend away. Put your girly elastics away and gear up!
