Partridge Lakes
4th November 2017
Spey and Ribbon Pools
This month the club returned to Partridge Lakes in Warrington for the penultimate match of the year.
It was the first round of the 2017/18 winter knockout cup and also potentially a decider for this years league title. Anything but a win for Tony Wilson would see Dave Edwards crowned champion for the second time.
Split across two lakes on the complex, Spey, a straight Canal lake and Ribbon, a round lake with a central Island.
The first section saw the long awaited return of Chris Roe. He fished a great match from peg 4 on Spey and caught F1's on pellet in 4ft towards the far bank. By rotating lots of different lines he's managed to keep fish coming most of the day and weighed 54-12 to destroy the rst of the field. Nice to have you back.....sort of.
The second section was taken by Bill Oddie. Despite spending most of the day looking for rare birds with his new binoculars he weighed 9-04 to win a tough section and also ticked 7 birds off his to do list. Nice multi-tasking.
The third section was taken by Dave Edwards. After a good start hes struggled in the second half of the match. His 22lb was enough to take the section and second place overall.
Onto Ribbon and the first section was taken by Keith Howard, he caught well on maggot over micros in the early stages and despite slowing down, still did enough for a section win and 3rd overall with 18-04. He also wrapped up the Keith v Dennis title going 7-4 up with one match left.
Next peg Tony Wilson weighed 18-02 and afterwards found another fish stuck in his keepnet. What a bellend. Tony's 4th place meant Dave Edwards won the league for the second time. Congratulations David.
The last section was a tight one with Bob O'Neill just pipping Colin Roe with 10lb.
Through to the second round of the Winter knockout cup are:
Robbie, Keith, Chris R, Paul E, Tony, Bill Oddie, Dave and Dennis.
Cheshire Fisheries next for the last match of the year. Don't forget it's secret santa so bring a wrapped gift (alcohol or fishing gear) worth £10.
