Partridge Lakes
Covey 5
Back to Partridge Lakes in Warrington.
This month saw the start of the summer knockout cup and also 4 guests joining us. This meant there were 20 anglers spread over 31 pegs on Covey 5.
Yet again, same as our last visit, the venue was out of sorts and a tough day was had by most.
The first section was taken by one of the guests John Rogers. Despite struggling to string together a run of fish he managed to put 26lb on the scales and take the money. Good effort, don't be making a habit of it.
The second section contained league leader Dave Edwards. He'd spent the day before pestering venue expert Steve Openshaw for as much info and bait as he could get out of him. After an early struggle trying to catch shallow on caster he reverted to pellet on the deck and managed to snare 32-00 of mainly F1's. Good enough for 2nd place overall.
In the same section a couple of pegs away was Tony Wilson. Whilst taking a couple of early fish on paste short, he also fed a caster shallow line and was invaded by the lakes duck population. On trying the shallow line he caught two ducks and after a little attack of Tourette's, decided to try fishing the deck instead. This produced a run of fish and he managed a mixed bag with F1's, Carp, Skimmers, Ide and Tench. At the scales he had 57-08 to take both the section and the match.
The third section saw Frank Branscombe take the honours. He fished the method feeder to the end of the island and caught carp and F1's to weigh 24-08. Well done Frank.
Section 4 was a close battle between Les Cousins and Colin Roe. Les caught well on the feeder, to the island, down the track and wherever else it happened to land. To his left was Colin who was catching well on the politically incorrect rig shallow. That was until he managed to snap his number 5 and gave Les the chance to edge ahead. At the scales Les had 31-06 to take 3rd place overall and beat Colin by one fish. So unlucky Col.
The fifth and final section was the island pegs and despite having a fair amount of room it didn't fish very well. Another guest, Paul Mc taking the honours with 19lb.
Well done to all framers and section winners.
I hope the guests were all made to feel welcome and will return soon.
Well done to Frank and Les, nice to see some medals and money going home with different people.
Willow next on July 1st, time to get snarled up in some proper carp....
