Dobbin' Dave Does The Damage

The Cunneries
Old Canal
7th January 2017

Happy New year to all.

The club has taken the decision to fish right through the year instead of just March to December and so this was our first time venturing out in January.
Our first trip of the year saw us fishing The Cunneries on the Old Canal. We had breakfast at the on-site cafe and got some information about which pegs were likely to produce. The draw then took place for both the match and the first round of the winter knockout cup.
With 20 pegs and 16 anglers in attendance it proved to be quite tightly pegged. The weather was a fairly mild 8 degrees with no wind and occasional showers. There had been a few frosts in the previous week though so we were expecting sport to be hard going.

The first section was quite close with everyone catching a few fish but Colin Roe caught on maggot across and weighed 8lb with a few F1's and a 5lb carp to both take the section and set the benchmark for the biggest fish of the season.
The second section saw Tony Wilson get odd F1's and silver fish through the match and despite a late surge from the lesser spotted Graham Offlands he managed to hold on and weigh 13-05 for 3rd overall and the section win.
The 3rd section saw a return to the bank for Lez Smith, nice to have you back. The section was dominated by the overall winner Dave Edwards, who managed to overcome Dennis's threats to bum him if he won, and dobbed Carp and F1's on maggot and bread for 29-10.
The last section saw club champion Chris Roe catch 28lb of mainly F1's dobbing bread and take 2nd place overall.

The 8 anglers through to the quarter finals of the winter knockout cup are Dave, Keith, Carl, Offy, Tony, Colin, Chris R and Richie.

Well done to Dave on the win. Although, he was yet again claiming 10lb and that he'd been well and truly beaten by Chris. I think instead of weighing in using scales we should invest in one of these.

Saying that, Dave would only break it.

See you at the presentation night guys.
