An early night for Churchy saw him outside Col's house with time to spare but Lez Smith stepped into the clubs 'Drunk in bed' role instead. Despite Keith's best efforts to wake him by throwing stones at his window he just kept pushing out the zzzzzz's. Although, anyone who's watched Keith trying to throw bait near his float, will know the neighbours were probably in more danger of being woken up.
A stop off at the Toby for the intrepid 17 and the draw was done over breakfast. Dave was expected to draw an end peg but for once his magic arm let him down. He wasn't going to let a technicality get in the way though and put his new Airity to good use and fished the end peg anyway.
Churchy drew next to Chris Roe and realizing he might be up against it, decided to walk over and snap his pole before the all in. A tactic that i might employ myself in future. They were in what turned out to be the best section with all 3 podium positions between it.
In the first section, after drawing the lowest number possible, as per usual, Colin made the most of his end peg and despite losing a few donkeys, put 18-06 on the scales to take the envelope.
The second section was a close affair with everyone claiming someone else had won. The scales revealed Chris Roe had won with 55-13 of mainly banjo caught carp. Bob hoping he'd done his first 50lb+ and put an agonizing 49-03 on the scales for 2nd in section and overall, also using a Banjo. Carl had fished a great match and weighed a new PB (or BP as Churchy calls them) with 46-05 for 3rd overall.
The third section was won by Sir Chimpalot with 32-10 of Banjo caught carp. The decision to fish the Banjo was an inspired one. He decided that the method wasn't working as well as he hoped, so got 5 out of his box and cast them all into the trees opposite. Once he'd got rid of them all he put a Banjo on and emptied it. Genius.
In the last section they decided to have a perch bashing session with Keith showing the others the way with 600 fish for 3-03, Dave fished 17.5 meters to make sure everyone saw his new Airity and was rewarded with 2 perch. Naughty Norman was falling behind in the perch race so switched to meat down the shelf in 9ft and snared 4 carp for 13-14 and a section win.
A tough day for most but enjoyable all the same with some great banter and everyone sticking it out to the end. Thanks to Richie for lifting my mood with some Jaffa cakes when I was at my lowest ebb.
I'm off to the tackle shop to buy some Banjo's, if you can't beat 'em...join 'em.
