The Worcester weekender

The long anticipated weekend away finally arrived and went in a flash.

The club welcomed Colin Cook as a new member. A top class angler and a great bloke too. I'm sure we can all learn a lot from him. It was nice to see him giving Richie a few pointers.

We arrived at Solhampton for the first day on Valley and Duck. Two sub teams of 5 fished on each lake. On arriving at the pegs, most people were greeted by margins full of carp which didn't seem too bothered about us being there.
The fishing was a lot harder than expected though, and although the fish were there all day, they proved quite clever and hard to catch.
On Duck pool Tony managed to win the lake with 82-12 with all carp caught short on corn. Some decent back up weights from the rest of the green team meant they won the lake.
Over on Valley Pool and new member Colin Cook won the lake with 58-12 to lead his red sub team to victory meaning it was all square going into day 2.

Back to the hotel and after 6 swift Cobra's outside the local Indian it was off to Worcester.

"Get me more Cobra. The SAS are in town!"

Note: Dave on the phone to Lisa

A few beers, an all you can eat chinese, a game of Gladiators racing up the travelator and a good time was had by all.

The following morning there were a few bears with sore heads, Carl spewed his hoop, Tony woke up in the wrong room and there was plenty of complaints about others snoring.

Day 2 was at Cob House fishery on Oak and Chestnut and the fishing was incredible with an average weight of almost 90lb.
Fished as a pairs match there were some close results.
Col Cook had the best weight of the day with 160-02, backed up by Frank's 104-14 they won their match on Oak by over 100lb.
The other match on Oak Pool saw Paul Mc and the chimp (sounds like an eighties band) weigh a combined 150-14 to beat Bill Oddie and Col Roe.

Over on Chestnut pool the best weight was caught by Dave Edwards with 151-06. Paired with Neal Howard who caught 49-00 their 200lb combined weight wasn't quite enough as Tony Wilson and Les Cousins both had good weights for a combined 232lb.
The battle of the century saw Bob and Dennis and pitted against Offy and Keith.
It couldn't have been much closer with Bob getting off to a flier and Offy having a good late run down the edge.
Bob, the man in form, broke his PB with 144-12. Despite almost doubling his PB, Offy fell agonisingly short, with 143-06.
Dennis had however managed to beat Keith by 5lb and so Offy and Dennis took the points for the green team.
In the final match on Chestnut, Carl caught 57-04 and Bucko
95-10, enough to take the points.
What a venue, there were 7 or 8 Pb's smashed and the quality of fish was amazing.
The green team won 4 out of 5 pairs matches to take a 6 point lead into day 3.

The second night out soon wiped the smile off Dennis's face as the Chelsea rent boys smashed Man United in the cup final.

A few pints, something to eat and a game of killer pool and the night seemed to go in a flash. Some of the boys decided to go clubbing until the early hours and Tony slept in the wrong bed again.

On Sunday morning everyone looked and felt like shit but, being hardcore, we soldiered on.
On to Woodland View for the last day on Front Deans pool. Fished as a singles match with competing anglers opposite each other to make things spicy.
John Rogers was the main man on the day with a weight of 87-06 beating the pensioner by a mere 75lb.
A close battle saw Dave Edwards 85-12 beat Chris Roe 80-08, Bob was 4th with 71-10 and Dennis had a great day to weigh 63-14, beat Keith and go some way to making him feel a bit better about United losing the cup final.

The green team managed to win 7 of the 10 singles matches and won the overall competition so well done to them and hard luck to the reds.

All anglers were asked to guess thier weight before pulling their nets out. This was worth £20 a day to whoever was the nearest. It certainly reduced the amount of bullshitting with lots of guesses really close to the mark.
The lure of £60 wasn't enough to derail the Dave Edwards bullshit train though. A combined 92lb 12oz off the mark over three days. Impressive even by his own high standards.

Weston Pools next year, only 352 sleeps to go.

Did I mention United got beat in the cup final?
