Weston Pools
Individual Club Angler of 2016
This is a competition which gives anybody who has won a club match at the complex over the last 12 months the opportunity to represent their club.
Proudly representing the S.A.S. would be Chris Roe who won the first league match of 2016 from Canal pool and Tony Wilson who won the Club teams of 5 event individually from Weir.
The match would be fished over 4 of the pools on site and the few weeks leading up to the event saw the weights at the complex starting to dip due to the lower temperatures.
Both anglers had managed to get some practice in the weekly open matches and had an idea of what was needed.
The massive weights of the summer months were a distant memory but both agreed about 65-70lb would be enough.
There were over 50 anglers present.
In terms of where you wanted to draw, there are certain areas of each lake which are preferred but the overall winner could come from any lake.
Chris drew peg 25 on Canal, not a fancied peg, but not too bad either. He caught early on before being invaded by a family of rats. He spent the second half of the match shooing away the rodents and missing bites. A total weight of 41lb was enough for 3rd place on the lake and 7th overall. A great performance but he was left wondering what might have been.
Tony drew peg 30 on Stretton which was end end peg on the day and a fancied peg in the match. Fishing maggot shallow between 2 and 4ft deep he kept a steady run of F1's and silvers coming and weighed 48lb 8oz, enough to win the lake and take 4th place overall.
The winning weight on the day was 55lb from peg 10 on Weir.
A couple of pints and a plate of Chilli-con-carne followed while the results were being finalized. The chilli was tasteless and hotter than the sun.
Chris told his missus he'd only had a few chips because he's supposed to be on a diet and she'd already cooked his tea. The next day he had to try and explain why a few chips had given him a bad stomach all night and a severe case of ring sting.
Those lies always catch up with you, you know.
