Pools 2 & 3
Some sad news in the build up to this match. Gary Hooper, former member from our days at the Poulton Vics sadly passed away in his sleep at the age of 52. He was a very popular member of the club and someone we were all very fond of.
R.I.P. The Carling Kid.
The lads all kindly donated the pools money to help Gary's family towards the funeral.
Back to Cheshire for the final match of the year and possibly our last visit to the venue due to a change of ownership.

14 members for this one spread across 2 lakes. This would be the final chance to climb a few places in the league and also served as the quarter final of the 2017/18 winter knockout cup.
The weather leading up to this match had taken a severe turn for the worse with overnight frosts and bitter northerly winds but would the fish still play ball?
The day started with new member John Rogers receiving his welcome pack containing a Brokeback Mountain DVD, a mud pack, a mega cad pot, some 0.26 line, size 10 hooks and a vial of truth serum. The truth serum is to be taken after each match but before the weigh in so the rest of us can determine what he's caught. This guy can lie better than Dave Edwards.
Tony Wilson, having picked up bait for a few of the lads, unpacked the car to find about 5 pints of maggots had escaped in the car. Most of them were later found in his bag.
There were 7 anglers on each lake and Pool 2 fished much harder than 3. Dennis Clayton snared a lump mid match and with a few other fish to go with it took the lake win with just 13lb, that was also enough to see him through to the semi's of the cup.
Norman Smith caught 7-10 for second and was just happy to have beaten Dave Edwards.
Up on lake 3 and it was a different story with John Rogers cathching Carp from the very start. He stayed busy for most of the day catching in 3.5ft switching between pellet and maggot at 8m.
He left the truth serum in the car though and after claiming 'about 30lb' actually weighed 86-08 to leave everyone else trailing in his wake, and calling him a lying bastard.
There was a debate mid match about how Bucko managed to tempt so many fish. The general consensus was that they must be attracted to the lingering smell of Yankee Candle and face packs.
On the next peg was, thought to be extinct, Graham Offlands. He has also caught Carp but at just a top kit and two sections and weighed 45-10 to take second palce overall.
Further down the lake Colin Roe and Tony Wilson, sat opposite each other, had a close battle with Tony just sneaking 3rd place with 25-12 by asking Colin what he was doing and copying him.
Keith Howard in the corner of the lake sat without a bite for 5 hours. Having drawn Dave Edwards in the cup and hearing he hadn't caught much on Pool 2, Keith was 'donated' a carp from Richie Williams to try and wind Dave up. Unfortunately, the carp wasn't quite big enough to cover Dave's 4-14 and the plan was foiled.
Through to the Winter knockout cup semi-finals are Tony Wilson, Dave Edwards, Dennis Clayton and Richie Willimas.
After the match Dave was spotted in the car park drinking beer. Obviously not put off by pissing himself the week before.
Well that's it for the year, a review of 2017 will follow.....
