Dave the Munter Hunter

Heronbrook Fishery
Island Pool
6th May 2017

This months match was the clubs first visit to match fishing Mecca, Heronbrook fishery.
The match was on Island pool and with Bob and Offy in the U.S of A, there were 16 anglers in attendance, making four sections of four.

With a break between the knockout cup comptitions this one would be for league points only.

The draw was done during breakfast at the fishery and it seemed most people fancied 1 or 19 with 20 not being in, it left a bit of room in the corner. First two pegs out of the bag? Yes, 1 and 19, sticking to the grubby mitts of Richie and Norman.

Well the fishing was harder than expected, a few peolpe got off to a decent start but it soon tailed off. There was a little burst at the end of the match, for the ones who didn't pack up early, but the middle of the match was poor.

The first section was won by Richie off the peg 1 with 18-04 which was also good enough to take 4th place in the match.

The second section which we had been reliably informed was going to be the most difficult part of the lake, proved to be so. The spoils were taken by Chris Roe. After catching just 3 stockies in the first half of the match he did the sensible thing. He went for a walk, had a moan, went back and foul hooked a munter in the ring piece which made up the majority of his section winning 18-02. Its a difficult skill to learn but it can pull you out of the shit.

The third section saw Dave and Tony pegged next door. A steady start saw both catching fish for fish for the first hour. After 7 small carp and F1's each for about 12lb there was no separating them. Dave then ruined the game by snaring a 12lb lump on single maggot, and set the benchmark for the season's biggest fish, stuffy cunt. With a nice little cushion he was able to relax and try a few different things, the first of which was to chuck a banjo to the far bank. Two minutes later he was attached to another 12lb carp, closely followed by another of 7lb and that was goodnight Vienna for Mr. Wilson.
Dave ended up weighing 60-04 for a section and match win.
Tony had a good run of F1's short on maggot in the last hour and weighed 43-02 and with nobody else claiming more than 20lb thought he'd done enough for 2nd place overall.

The last section had fished hard too, it seemed. WIth the first 3 anglers weighing 11,7 and 9lb and Norman claming 20lb. The scales arrived at Masterchef's peg and he weighed 45lb for the section and also enough to STEAL second place overall. After Dave telling the truth all day, I think we have a new King Of The Bullshitters. He then had the bare faced cheek to expect a lift home.

Sorry there's no photo's on this one as my phone was playing up again.

The fishery is a bit too far to be travelling if thats how it's going to fish. We are back there in September on Bridge Pool which will see everyone having a lot more room than we had on Island so hopefully it will be a lot better.

Tunnel Barn next for the weekend away oooooooosssshhhh
