Home Farm Fishery
Match Lake
November 5th 2016
Another new venue for the club saw us travelling to Alsager to Home Farm Fishery. A nice open water venue with sets of Lily pads all around. More of a natural looking venue but with a commercial stocking. Plenty of carp, F1's and silvers to provide the sport.
There were just 12 members at this one and with 40 pegs on the lake there would be plenty of room.
However, the temperature had dropped in the lead up to the match and with a cold Northerly wind on match day, it was expected to be quite difficult.
Well, difficult it certainly was, very few carp or F1's fed and the silvers that did were mainly in the 2-3oz bracket. All together the 12 members just scraped 50lb between us.
The first section saw Richie Williams take the section prize with just two fish for 5lb 7oz caught on the bomb and pellet.
The second section saw Chris Roe take the prize with a net of small skimmers which weighed 12lb all caught on pellet over micros and crushed expander groundbait. He'd ground the expander a himself and left a mess in the kitchen which earned him a bollocking off the wife on the way there.
His 2nd place overall was also enough to wrap up the league title with a match to spare.
The third section was won by Dave Edwards with 8lb of small skimmers with the odd bonus one of about an ounce.
The last section, and the match, was won by Churchy. He made the most of the extra room in the corner peg (and the fact he was sober for once) and managed 14lb 2oz of mainly carp, caught on triple maggot on a method feeder along the empty bank to the left.
He was so pleased with his win he managed to stay awake all the way home.
Congratulations to Chris Roe on winning the league, he hasn't put a foot wrong all year and thoroughly deserves the victory. Second place is still up for grabs with just one point between Tony Wilson and Dave Edwards.
